Aaarghhh!

flower garden

With flower gardens to weed, stawberries to tend and a garden to till, I haven't had much time for the horses.

But with a long Memorial Day weekend ahead of me, I found some time today. I made a round pen out of 1 1/2" tape and plastic posts and tried lunging Red. He was so full of energy (Sparkler's in heat) I could not bring him under control. He ended up ripping the rope out of my hands and getting away so and I lunged Sparkler instead! This is a first so I win, right?

Role reversal

The funniest thing has happened. Sparkler seems to have become the herd boss after Red's absence. When I fed them their grain tonight, Sparkler was the first to eat--at Red's bucket, kicking him out of the way--and he submitted. So I fed him from her bucket:)

Red is back

Bob and I picked up Red today. The change is obvious. Red is much better mannered. I'd asked Gary to get him used to spray bottles and that's gone well. But he's still dominant and a bit unsure of himself--that was evident loading him into the trailer. We'll need to work on that.

I can lunge!

I went out to see Red at Gary's (the trainer) today. It was really muddy, but Red didn't seem to mind working. I'm finally able to lunge him and it feels great!

Fence #2 started

Hauling Posts

We started working on fence #2 on the west side where we currently have a mess of T-posts and tape. The horses have gotten out here a couple of times, so we're anxious to get this done. It was a warm day and nice to get some of the posts in.
