Gilly bareback

Friday was a bust for me. Thursday night, web services went down at work and I needed to go in to try to set things in order. It turned into a long night and an early next morning, so I napped Friday night and missed the fun at Art and Vicki's. So I planned on getting to their place tonight, but lost track of time cutting *d!XrEl* burdock out of the pasture. By the time I started walking Gilly down, Art had driven over to find out what happened to me. They were already done. Gilly was acting freaky anyway so I walked him back home and around our drive 4 times before he finally was leading well. Then since he was being so calm and responsive, we went in the arena and I rode bareback.
We didn't have the usual trouble - I didn't have to kick and kick to get him to go. I started with just a cluck, occasionally a squeeze and he went where I wanted. I don't think he is
a lazy horse. I think he's just herd bound and won't listen to the rider when there are other horses around.
