Oh deer

Junco in bush

I hit a doe crossing the road last Thursday at the snowmobile crossing. I came over a hill and there she was. She could not decide which way to escape – crossing back and forth several times with ice under foot. I had too little time to brake coming downhill and on ice. I hit her as softly as I could, but she still flew up like a turkey, came down in the ditch and floundered around. I found later, what I thought to be a flying hoof turned out to be a piece of plastic grill. By the time I picked things up off the floor and backed up she was gone. She must be OK!

So this morning I was at the body shop for an estimate. Broken grill, smooshed hood. The estimate wasn’t as bad as I expected. Snow and ice were melting as we inspected the damage-it was 40 degrees and not even noon.

As soon as I got home I used the opportunity to do some grooming in the arena, where it was pleasantly warm. I have not done a thing with the horses since November.
