I started working at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire as a database developer and then Gopher Coordinator in 1993 when this hierarchical format was the best way to share information over the Internet. While I enjoyed being the "Gopher Goddess", the web brought a bigger perspective to my job and a new nickname, "Web Witch". More seriously, as "University Web Coordinator", my duties are ever-changing and diverse.
My biggest challenge currently, as chair of the Web Accessibility workgroup, is to get policy and standards approved. The difficulty is arriving at standards that are correct for the current state of technology and that are easy to understand and implement. Ensuring that our web publishers are using correct web standards is something our CWCW Council is striving toward. See the developer links to the left if you are interested.
I would not have been able to accomplish all that I have without a supportive manager and staff and most importantly, the talented, ambitious, clever, humorous, excited, energetic and did I say talented? students who have worked for me over the years.
There's not much of it, but I have developed a few other sites in my spare time:
